Rhinoplasty
Content
Description
The nose forms the central part of the face and thus significantly affects the overall appearance of the face.
Nose surgery (so-called rhinoplasty, nose reshaping) can be focused on shape, size and angle of the nose, problems with breathing after injuries or in-born asymmetry.
The nose includes several types of tissues (bone, cartilage, skin, mucosa), so rhinoplasty is a very delicate surgery and requires the approach of a specialist who routinely deals with rhinoplasty.
Facts
- General anesthesia
- One-day surgery
- Surgery lasts 2 hours
- Recovery after 2 weeks
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the appearance of your face (bone removal, cartilage grafting, skin softening). It is very important to consult your wishes with possibilities before your surgery.
Properly performed nose surgery can significantly improve the size and shape of the nose, enhance breathing and improve self-confidence.
The operation is planned and performed under general anesthesia. After the surgery breathing is possible just through the mouth. It is very important to be completely healthy without symptoms of respiratory disease before the operation.
There are two main approaches to nose surgery:
- Closed approach (internal approach) with incisions in the endonasal mucosa.
- Open approach with incisions also in the skin between nares, enabling to elevate the skin of the nose and approaching the cartilages.
Other techniques are used to improve the shape of the nose:
- cartilage grafts for remodeling the tip ot the nose
- bone removal (dorsum bone reduction)
- septal reconstruction (crooked nasal septum)
- osteotomy (breaking the nasal bones to be reshaped)
- implants (e.g. silicone), tissue fillers
Nose surgery is usually accompanied by swelling and bruising.
If you have had an osteotomy, you will wear a nasal splint (for about 2 weeks). Sometimes a tamponade (a small tube in each airway) is inserted into the nose - so you will be able to breathe mainly through your mouth.
Stitches are removed 7-10 days after the operation.
Healing takes about 6 weeks and accidents and injuries should be avoided.
The return to normal daily activities is in 3 weeks.
